Want to Join Local 237?
If you are not already a member and you are employed in a title represented
by Local 237 Teamsters in New York City or on Long Island, it's worth your
while to consider the benefits of union membership.
You should know that as a Local 237 member, your contract offers you many
protections that are not available to non-union workers.
Local 237 members have a chance to vote on a union contract that provides,
among other things:
- Strong protection from layoffs;
- A strong grievance procedure that protects your due process rights
and guarantees fairness when you have a problem on the job;
- Employer/union-funded welfare benefits package that includes in many
instances dental care, vision care, prescription drug and disability
coverage.
- Regularly scheduled contractual wage increases.
Other benefits of union membership include:
- Education programs, training and advancement opportunities;
- Retiree programs and benefits;
- Legal Services Plan coverage for non-work related legal issues, including
wills, divorce, custody issues and home purchase and selling;
- Automatic membership in the union's Retiree program upon your retirement
from the job;

- Educational scholarship opportunities through Local 237's affiliation
with the Teamsters International Union and the New York State AFL-CIO;

As with any other membership into an organization, members are assessed
a membership fee or dues. Union dues are automatically deducted from your
paycheck each and are based on your salary.
