Terese Nemley, a school safety agent with more than 30 years of service, received the top honor among 18 recipients of the 2008 Isaac Liberman Public Service Award for Career Civil Service Employees. The awards ceremony was held Dec. 16 at Police Headquarters in Manhattan, where Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined Commissioner Raymond Kelly in congratulating all the honorees, including winners of the E. Virgil Conway College Scholar Awards.

“We are extremely proud of agent Nemley, who embodies the peace officer’s oath,” said President Gregory Floyd, adding, “She serves as a power of example to hundreds of youths each year who are beneficiaries of her dedicated work.”

SSA Terese Nemley and sponsor Walter A. Shay, Public Affairs Manager for Con Ed, take in the awards ceremony.

Nemley, a liaison to the Outreach Unit of the Queens South Command, is an advisor to Law Enforcement Explorers Post No. 2241 in Queens since 2003 and has law enforcement and public service. “I take personal delight in my work,” says Nemley, adding that she especially enjoys working with the children in the program.

Under her direction, the Post has received numerous awards and commendations for its participation in community service events in southern Queens, such as graffiti clean-ups, soup kitchens, coat and toy drives, and park beautification activities. Her efforts have helped forged close and positive connections between the Police Department and youth in communities it serves.

The Liberman awards are named for the founder of The Hundred Year Association of New York, which is composed of more than 200 companies and nonprofit organizations operating in New York City for at least 100 years. Awards are sponsored by association members, including Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., which backed Nemley’s cash award of $6,000.
