NYC Bills Worth Watching

There are several pieces of local legislation the union is keeping an eye on as they make their way through City Hall.

Intro 490 – A bill that would amend the administrative code of the city to require the Department of Education, in consultation with the Police Department, to install video security cameras at all entrances and exits of each public school. The bill is sponsored by Public Safety Committee Chair Peter Vallone, Jr. (D-Queens) in conjunction with three other Council members: James Oddo (R-Staten Island), Dennis P. Gallagher (R-Queens) and Andrew J. Lanza (R-Staten Island).

Intro 527 – A bill requiring all city agencies to record and report information regarding workplace injuries and illnesses.

The bill, introduced by Council Member James F. Gennaro (D-Queens), requires that the records include the nature of the injury or illness, the name and title of the claimant, and other pertinent information. The bill was referred to the Council’s Committee on Civil Service and Labor. A hearing on it has not yet been set.
