Newsline: August 2004 TEAMSTERS LOCAL 237 OFFICIAL NOTICE OF NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Proper identification will be required for admission to the meeting. Nominations must be made and seconded at the nomination meeting by a member in good standing other than the nominee. A member unable to attend may nominate or second a nomination in writing. A member must accept his/her nomination at the meeting or, if unable to attend, in writing. Any such written nominations, seconds and acceptances must be received by the Secretary-Treasurer, with a copy to the Independent Election Supervisor, prior to 4:00 p.m. on September 8, 2004. No member may accept nomination for more than one position. To nominate or second a candidate or otherwise participate in the nomination meeting, a member must have his/her dues paid up through the month of August, 2004, and must be an active member on the day of the nomination meeting. In advance of the nomination meeting, prospective nominees are advised to verify with the Secretary-Treasurer, with a copy to the Independent Election Supervisor, the eligibility of their nominators and seconders. To be eligible to be elected for any office in Local 237, a member must be in continuous good standing in Local 237 and actively employed in a craft within the jurisdiction of Local 237 for a period of twenty-four (24) consecutive months prior to September, 2004, and must be eligible to hold office if elected. This requirement includes the timely payment of dues for the twenty-four (24) month period, together with no interruption in active membership in Local 237 because of suspension, expulsions, withdrawals, transfers or failure to pay fines or assessments. Prospective nominees are advised to verify their eligibility with the Secretary-Treasurer, with a copy to the Independent Election Supervisor, in advance of the nomination meeting. Candidates shall have the right to campaign and appear on the ballot as members of a slate. A member on dues check-off will not lose good standing as a result of a delay or default in the employer’s transmittal of dues to the Local Union, or because of an employer’s failure to make the proper deductions in any month in which the member has earnings from which deductions could have been made. This election shall be held in accordance with the Local 237 Bylaws, the International Constitution and the Election Rules promulgated by Local 237, copies of which are available upon request from the President of Local 237 or his designee. The nomination and election process will be supervised by an Independent Election Supervisor, whose name and telephone number appear below. Elected officers of Local 237 shall, by virtue of such election, be delegates to any Joint Council with which Local 237 is affiliated. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Election for officers of Local 237 shall be by a secret ballot, conducted by mail referendum. The printing, mailing, receiving and tabulating of all ballots shall be conducted and supervised by the Independent Election Supervisor. In order to vote in the election, a member must be in good standing and have paid his/her dues through September, 2004. Members may pay all dues arrearages, initiation or reinstatement fees at the Local 237 office until 4:00 p.m. on October 13, 2004. Ballots will be mailed to each active member of Local 237, at that member’s last known address, on or about September 15, 2004. Returned voted ballots from members of Local 237 must be received by the Independent Election Supervisor, at the address shown below, no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 13, 2004, in order to be counted in this election. Members who do not receive a ballot in the mail by September 20, 2004, may request a replacement ballot be sent to them. If more than one ballot is received from a member, the ballot with the latest postmark will be counted. Requests for replacement ballots may be made in writing sent by fax or made by telephone and must be made no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 8, 2004.
