Local 237 Officials to Host Meeting for New Members
Members who joined Local 237 since 2004 are invited to an orientation hosted by union officials on Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at 5:30 p.m.
Mark your calendars now, so you don’t miss this important opportunity to meet the people who work each day to make your jobs as rewarding as possible. It’s a great chance to match the names with the faces!
Meet and get to know participants at the orientation, which include Local 237 President Carl Haynes and members of the executive board, directors of the union’s various divisions and departments, and the business agents who represent your title.
“As new members grow to understand who does what at the union and recognize the value of their own involvement, the more rewards they will reap,” says Haynes. “Our strength in winning good contracts and protecting workers’ rights lies with members who are well informed and willing to fight together against workplace abuses.”
At the orientation, sponsored by the Membership Department, you will be able to ask questions and get answers directly from officials about all the services the union provides for its dues-paying members, including the following:
- shop stewards and business agents
- contract negotiation and enforcement
- legislative lobbying
- Welfare Fund benefits
- pension and retirement counseling
- membership meetings
- preparation for promotional exams
- legal services
- “Newsline” – the union newspaper
- www.local237.org - the union website
Light refreshments will be served at the orientation, where an enduring bond of brotherhood will also be nourished. Don’t miss it!
