Black, Puerto Rican Legislators Host Annual Albany Conference

President Floyd Receives Award

Local 237 officials attended the 37th Annual Legislative Conference hosted by the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, chaired by State Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson and Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr. in Albany, where several events focused on the labor movement.

Notable among the activities for the weekend of Feb. 15-17 was an Awards Ceremony where President Gregory Floyd was honored with a crystal obelisk engraved with the words, “Embracing a United Workforce.” Patricia Stryker, Local 237 trustee and political action and legislation director, was also awarded for her contributions. The awards were presented by Sen. John Sampson.

Separately, Floyd also accepted an award from the association on behalf of The Bridge Fund, an advocacy group he has championed over the years for providing grants and interest free loans to families facing eviction. State Assemblyman José R. Peralta presented the award to Floyd, who delivered it to the fund.

A group of about 40 rank-and-file members joined Housing Division Director Remilda Ferguson, Citywide Director Donald Arnold and several business agents at the conference to participate in workshops and view a Business/Career and Craft Exhibition Fair.
