In February, during dismissal in the vicinity of JHS 285, SSA Joanne Solomon observed a commotion. What initially appeared to be a disturbance quickly escalated into a violent physical altercation.

Without hesitation and with complete disregard for her own personal safety, SSA Solomon immediately intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and protect those involved. During the incident, one of the individuals fell to the ground and was being assaulted. SSA Solomon positioned herself over the victim, using her own body to shield and protect the individual from further harm.

While courageously protecting the victim, SSA Solomon was stabbed in the leg. Despite sustaining this serious injury, she remained focused on ensuring the safety of the students and the school community. Unaware that she had been stabbed, she returned to the school to verify that all students and staff were safe before realizing the extent of her injury and seeking medical attention.

SSA Joanne Solomon’s extraordinary courage, selfless actions, and unwavering commitment to the safety of others exemplify the highest standards of public service. Her heroic response, despite suffering a personal injury, reflects exceptional bravery, professionalism, and dedication to her duty, making her highly deserving of recognition for her outstanding actions.
