About 500 people participated in the 5K walk at Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows. The annual walk is organized by School Safety agents. “There are so many out there people with special needs, and we frown upon them and they’re wonderful people,” said Yamese Lavington, with Queens South School Safety Division. “So with us supporting this and coming out here with the walk, people get to see, hey, everyone’s human. It’s wonderful.”

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A three-inch folding knife was confiscated from a student at Morris Intermediate School (I.S. 61) in Brighton Heights Monday, a source told the Advance/SILive.com.
The box cutter was seen by another student who reported it to school safety agents, the source said, who added that the student’s parent was notified of the incident.
The city Department of Education (DOE) said it would be providing support for the school following the incident.
