On a hot summer morning in July members of the Retiree Division’s Latino Committee held their first meeting to plan the annual Latino Heritage Celebration. Many ideas were discussed until one strong theme emerged, “La Mujer Latina,” or “The Latina Woman.”

Presentations at the event will focus on the Latina’s many aspects as she balances family, work and political involvement while preserving cultural traditions.

Local 237’s Retiree Division hosted a meeting of its Italian Heritage Committee in July to share ideas for the upcoming Italian Heritage Celebration.

“The committee is off to a great start,” said Susan Milisits, assistant director and coordinator of the event. “They decided on the opera theme and planned out most of the program.”

Opera singer Anthony Tolve will perform and a guest speaker will discuss the history and development of opera in 17th Century Italy, France and Europe.
